602A: CardioLoop Data Acquisition and Analysis System

The 602A CardioLoop System serves to integrate components and provide the researcher control of system operations, data collection and signal analysis. Most importantly, commands and measurements are executed in real-time using a Linux-RTAI operating system. This ensures precise synchronization of equipment and real-time recording. CardioLoop is a powerful new software system specifically designed to perform detailed mechanics experiments on isolated cardiac muscle, including myocardial slices and strips. These experimental protocols are all structured on the basis of continuous pacing, rather than being temporally based, with a fixed duration of stimulation and length changes occurring at a predetermined time. This experimental structure naturally lends itself to twitch based contractions performed to assess basic contractility, however, it also provides a deeper level of functionality and permits a more physiological modelling of the cardiac cycle.

The system includes our 655A real-time CardioLoop software, a custom PC with Linux OS (601B), an on-board 16-bit DAQ card and a 604A signal interface with all required cables.

The unit is capable of controlling and receiving input from all 300 series muscle levers and length controllers, 400C series force transducers, 700 series stimulators and seamlessly connects to all Aurora Scientific Linux-based software products such as 901D HVSL and 955A FluoroTrack. This permits everything from a simple twitch to length-tension, isotonic, cardiac cycle, stiffness, force-velocity and more.

Also included with the system is an extensive library of standardized experimental protocols, making even the most demanding tests and multi-measurement processes straightforward and simple.

  • true cardiac cycle modelling using a 4-element windkessel model
  • twitch or beat based experimental protocols simplify data handling and averaging

  • stimulation parameters: pulse width, pacing frequency, number of beats

  • compatible with all 300 series length controllers and 400 series transducers
  • data acquisition, control and analysis together in one package, with timing to 0.1 millisecond
  • flexible control of several modelling variables (Po, Vref, r, R, L, C)

  • powerful analysis and plotting module
  • seamless integration with Fluorotrack and HVSL software
