Coming close to the end of the year, we at Aurora Scientific start to reflect on the celebrations, experiences and shared growth our staff have enjoyed together. While Aurora Scientific loves supporting scientific researchers around the world, we also enjoy being a team and celebrating important events and achievements throughout the year!
Solar Eclipse
In April, the Aurora staff gathered in different areas across Ontario to witness the April 8th, 2024 total solar eclipse. Prior to the eventful day, we enjoyed a presentation about the rarity of the occurrence from our in ‘House’ expert along with safety tips when using eclipse glasses. Another total solar eclipse will not be seen until 2044!
Trans Canada Trail Walk
July was a time of celebration for the collective achievement of completing the ASI Trans Canada Trail Challenge. Starting in Mile Zero Victoria, B.C. and ending in Cape Spear Lighthouse, St. John’s, N.L. the virtual trail started in July 2021 and was completed in June 2024. Marking each month’s milestone were presentations of interesting historical facts of the area and virtual imagery of the local scenery. The Aurora Scientific staff walked over 6,000,000 steps during the challenge, across over 5,000 kilometers! We celebrated the end of the challenge with a healthy lunch and awarded ribbons to the top two steppers from start to finish! We continue to encourage the Health and Wellness for everyone at Aurora Scientific.
Annual (mini) Golf Tournament
Following a busy Summer, we took time in September to spend a day out of the office playing Mini Golf with the entire staff! Showcasing our putting skills and enjoying other onsite activities, team members were rewarded with prizes for the lowest score challenges for each group, including a special Grand Prize winner for most ‘Hole-in-Ones!’ We also had some lucky winners for the raffle draw for specially made prize baskets!
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
A very important day, September 30th was a time of observance of Canada’s “National Day for Truth and Reconciliation” with staff wearing orange shirts in honour of Orange Shirt Day to remember that ‘Every Child Matters.’ This day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. To support this great cause, Aurora Scientific also organized donations for Indspire, a National indigenous registered charity that invests in the education of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people.
Aurora Scientific will continue to recognize opportunities to celebrate and support the interests and achievements of all the staff. Stay tuned for more exciting behind the scenes updates of “Life at Aurora” as we head into the New Year!
Supporting Research Worldwide
For over thirty years Aurora Scientific instrumentation has been the choice of leading researchers around the world. Our selection of Dual-Mode lever systems and force transducers are used in a broad array of life science research specialties, including exercise and metabolism, cardiology, injury recovery, gerontology, disease progression, pharmacology and more. Our fast response sensors are considered benchmark instruments in olfaction research studying odor dynamics and pheromone/plume dispersion, and our mechanical stimulator technology is used in studies of the neuronal response to touch, pain and stretch. Many instruments have also been adapted for use by material science researchers studying the properties of artificial muscle, locomotion and nanomaterials.
Today, our staff operate from three locations, supporting ground-breaking research in over 40 countries conducted by our valued clients.
