For the second year in a row Aurora Scientific fielded a team year at the ESSO Rebecca Run for SMA on Sat. July 7, 2013. This is the 12th year for the run which raises money in support of Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy of Canada. Our team joined over 700 participants who supported SMA research by running, walking and rolling the 5 km course at Fairy Lake in Newmarket, Ontario.

This year ASI had a team of 10 which included both staff and their family members.  Kieran, from ASI Europe,  joined us and he really impressed us with his speed.  Three team members finished in the medals for their age group.  Kieran finished 2nd in his age group and first for our team with a time of 21:58.  Matt was 3rd in his age group with a time of 24:50.  Alison Whynot was also 3rd in her age group with a time of 27:43.  Congratulations to all of the Team ASI participants, great job!

Olivia – enjoying the run!

The day dawned hot, hazy and humid.  Once the race started the competitors found out just how hot it was out on the course.  Although there was no rain, like last year’s race, we all still ended up soaked by the end.

Kieran, John and Matt after the race  – hot and tired!

John was excited to beat Geoff this year and came in with a personal best time of 28:37.  The rest of the team all completed the distance with a smile on their faces. Congratulations to the whole team!
